The Queen Consoles Prince Dowan

This episode continued with Prince Dowan hurt and still shaken by the King’s unexpected hostility. After helping to curb the effects of the outbreak the Prince was left proud of himself however his father didn’t feel the same way.
The Queen Dowager who had witnessed the bad treatment the Prince received after his return, decided to visit him. The Queen told the Prince that she was proud of his bravery in putting himself on the line to save the sick people in Pyongyang. She, however, warned him to be mindful of what he does as the King’s temper is easily triggered.
Prince Dowan was glad to hear that the Queen acknowledged his bravery but he further inquired on if he could live outside the palace as the former princes. Sad to hear his request, the Queen reassured him that his home was inside the palace.

SIDENOTE: Prince Dowan’s reason for leaving the palace may because he fears the hostility of his father or it could also be because he wants to experience a different life outside the palace.

The Gyeongsin Myth+ Goo Hae Ryung and Prince Dowan Sleeps Together

It was that time of the year where the people in the palace would stay up all night in fear that if they fall asleep their future would be ridden by bad luck and their life span will be shortened. The male historians who somewhat followed this myth used it to their advantage to a night of drinking. They, however, told the female historians that it was their duty to spend the night and work.
The ladies who had stayed behind at work decided it was fair for them to have a drink amongst themselves as the males were out drinking. Hence they gathered and spoke amongst themselves and shared some of their deepest secrets.
After having a drink or two Goo Hae Ryung decided to visit Nokseogang in hope of seeing the Prince. When she did the two sat down and read trying to honor the strange Gyeongsin myth but later ended up falling asleep.
In the morning Prince Dowan woke up and found Hae Ryung asleep on his shoulder. He was left surprised after finding her so close to him while Goo Hae Ryung was left embarrassed.

The Frustrated Princess Let’s Her Voice Be Heard

In this episode, we saw the Princess for the first time, however, she wasn’t in the greatest of mood. Angry at the actions of the Crown Prince, the Princess visited the Office of Decrees and requested that two of the female historians accompanied her to the Prince’s chamber.
After inviting herself into the Prince’s quarter, the Princess showed her frustration towards the Prince and confronted him for refusing to spend time with her and giving her an heir.
She also revealed to him how hard it has been for in the palace as she has not been able to breed an heir, this reflected badly on her social status. The Crown Prince was not only embarrassed and worried that this would be recorded by the historians but finally, he was able to see the pain the Princess was burdened with.

The historians later had a difficult time deciding if the conversation between the Princess and the Crown Prince should be kept on record. The Crown Prince even visited Historian Min to ask him personally to remove what was recorded as this would not look good on his sister, the Princess, generations to come.
Knowing Historian Min’s upright and strict beliefs, he told the Crown Prince that he would not able to remove the facts as that would go against his beliefs as a historian.
The Crown Prince later visited the Princess room and apologized.

SIDENOTE: The Princess’s idea to take the female historians to the Crowns Prince Chambers was a bold move, as this did not only push the Prince to react immediately but it forced him to realize how hurt she was.

Prince Dowan Reveals to Goo Hae-Ryung His True Feelings

After waking up with Goo Rae Hyung in his arms Prince Dowan was left with a lot on his mind. At first, he tried to ignore his feelings but later sought help from Eunuch Heo and his house-helpers to confess his feelings to Goo Hae-Ryung.
After following Eunuchs Heo instructions on how to seduce a woman the Prince ended up failing miserably. His initial approach towards Hae-Ryung made her feel a bit uncomfortable and that was when he decided to boldly state how he truly felt. He made it clear to Hae Ryung that she should stay close to him.
Goo Hae-Ryung, was of course flattered by the Prince’s confession which stayed on her mind.
The Crown Prince who realized the ordeal the female historians went through in seeing his personal obstacles up close, decided to treat them and also give them a day off to go the valley.
Prince Dowan later found out that the river Goo Hae Ryung had visited was the place women normally went to flirt with men. He was left in a state of jealousy.
He later went to check up on Hae Ryung after being left worried.
I must say I enjoyed this episode, the comedic aspect along with the struggles in the palace kept me entertained. I can’t wait to see how tomorrows episode will unfold.
