The King Fights Back Subtly
In yesterday’s episode, the historians led a passive protest where they fought against the King for putting Goo Hae Ryung behind bars and also demanding to inspect the Office of Royal Decrees.
Although the King had retracted his command to search the administration records of the historians, we saw in this episode where he somewhat subtly rebel against them.
Hence for a number of days, the King instructed the Crown Prince, Prince Dowan and other palace officials to follow him around at the start of dawn, and he would visit the queen and attend lectures.
Goo Hae Ryung who was at the center of this was commanded to wake up early in the morning to attend meetings and lectures. She also had to keep check and sit-in at every aspect of the King’s daily life including his private time when he had to take a dump.
To make matters worse, she was instructed to dispose of his waste when he was finished. And for three days she had to repeat this process.
Hae-Ryung later found out that the King was reacting to the events that occurred the previous day and that he was rebelling against the historians passively, hence she carried through till the end.
The King Gave Up
The King eventually had to give up as he could not keep up with getting up at 4 in the mornings and he often fell asleep during lectures. This made him really irritable. It was then he had a one on one with Hae Ryung and as we suspected the King was worried about what Hae Ryung had heard that day and what she wrote down.
She, nevertheless, revealed the truth that she didn’t hear anything while attempting to eavesdrop. The two struck a deal and Goo Hae Ryung negotiated on behalf of the Office of Decrees, whereby she made the King write an official statement that he respected the historians and that they would be allowed to sit in every gathering.
The Crown Prince Spends a Day In the Town With Historian Song
Since the start of the drama, I’ve always enjoyed the short scenes with the Crown Prince and Historian Song. In this episode, the Crown Prince disguised himself as a nobleman and went into the town. He was able t see the progress of the people and play with the kids. Meanwhile, Historian Song was there seeing another side of him.
Somehow I think he likes her but as it relates to her I am uncertain of her true feelings as at first, she was spying on the Crown Prince as instructed by Second State Councillor Min. As the drama goes on, we’ll definitely be sure of her true intentions.
Not being able to leave the palace regularly, the Crown Prince enjoyed his day in the town.
Prince Dowan and Hae-Ryung Take A Closer Step
Throughout this episode, we witnessed how considerate the Prince was of Hae-Ryung, during the lecture he struck His Majesty’s ego by stating the facts about his condemned behaviors. Also while Hae-RYung was busy following His Majesty, he secretly brought her food as he was worried that she had not eaten all day.
Towards the end of this episode, the historians went out to eat and drink to celebrate the success of their protest. The Prince who later joined them as Clerk Yi was able to sit in and enjoy the group as they sang and drank.
At the end of the night, Hae Ryung brought him back to the palace and in his room, she found the poem he had written for her. Being touched by this, she was filled with tears and decided to embrace the Prince with a warm passionate kiss.
This scene was very memorable and touching especially when the soundtrack started playing. The preview for next week seems pretty interesting as there will be a western foreigner in the palace, can’t wait to see what will be the result of that.
