Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung Episode 27-28 Recap

Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung Episode 27-28 Recap. Prince Dowan character continues to mature as the story line progresses, in this episode he has again proven to be a selfless Prince. He may, however, be shaken in the upcoming episode due to the King’s hostility and resentment towards him.

Below are the highlights of episode 27-28.

Mo-Hwa’s Flashback+ The Western Foreigner Feels Welcome

This episode started off with a flashback of Mo-Hwa’s childhood and how she was helped by Goo Hae-Ryung’s ‘father’ to become a trainee physician. The flashback also shows the first time she met Jae Kyung and Goo Hae Ryung. Her connection to them reveals that she knows much more about Goo Hae Ryung’s real parents and what may have happened to them. I was hoping that the writers would delve more into this plot twist. Hopefully, they will flesh out all the relevant story lines before we reach the ending of this drama.

Furthermore, in this episode, the westerner continues to stay at Prince Dowan’s dwelling and he is getting along with everyone well. The Prince who knows that there is something suspicious about him still welcomes him.

I must say, I appreciate the fact that Prince Dowan is open-minded to learning about other cultures by trying to learn the westerner’s language.

The Western Foreigner Leaves The Palace

The guards in the last episode were unable to find the Westerner and in this episode, they’ve continued and extended their search. This had Prince Dowan, Goo Hae Ryung, and Eunuch Heo becoming more cautious in hiding the intruder and further led to them devising a plan so that he could escape from the palace.

After leaving the palace, Mo-hwa and the Westerner met up. It was further revealed that his brother was a physician that taught and worked with Mo-hwa when she was a trainee, he was however killed.

Jean, the Westerner had come to Joseon to find out where his older brother was buried so that he could properly say goodbye, even though he died many years ago.

Prince Dowan Takes the Blame+ Historian Sung Threatens the Crown Prince

After the King released the announcement that the 73 Catholics would be killed if the person responsible for hiding the invader did not come forward, Prince Dowan decided that he would go to the King and take the responsibility.

As expected, the King was furious that the Prince had hidden an intruder while the palace was left in chaos after trying to find him.
After the confession was made by the Prince, His Majesty in his state of anger insists that he wanted the Catholics dead, this way he would get to teach the Prince a lesson.
However, after hearing that the Crown Prince had dismissed his command, he was left even more furious and paid him a visit.

Towards the ending of this episode, it was unveiled why the Crown Prince had revoked the King’s order. Historian Sung, the Catholic, visited him and revealed that he was aware that Prince Dowan was hiding the intruder to which he threatened the Crown Prince.

The Crown Prince fearful of people finding out his brother was responsible, decided to retract His Majesty’s order without his knowing.
Historian Sung has not only betrayed the trust of Goo Hae Ryung but he broke the main principle of a historian by revealing the details of the sachaek to get what he wanted.

I understand that he wanted to save his people and defend his belief, but the way he went about it will later cause him to be banished and fired as a historian.

Historian Sung Scolded By Historian Min + Prince Dowan Receives Shocking News

After finding out what Historian Sung threatened the Crown Prince by using private information of the sachaek, Historian Min was left furious. He simply could not understand why Historian Sung could commit such an act and disregarded his role as a Historian. Based on the preview for next week’s episodes, Historian Sung will be punished for his actions.
Also, based on what we’ve learned about Historian Sung so far, he doesn’t mind making such sacrifice if it means he will save his people who practice Catholicism. While I commend his boldness, it will be sad to see how he will pay for his actions.

Further, in this episode, we see where Second State Councillor Min, had summoned Historian Song to get more information on why Prince Dowan visited His Majesty. He has requested that she take Historian Ryung’s sachaek to him so that he can read what she wrote.
I am hoping that she will make the right decision and refuse his request.

Also in this episode, upset at the actions of Prince Dowan, His Majesty decided towards the end of this episode to find a wife for the Prince. When Prince Dowan found out, he was left in shock as the person he loves is Goo Hae Ryung.

I can’t wait to see how the coming episodes will play out. The writers have enough time to wrap up each character’s story well, so I hope they do so properly.
