Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung Episode 31-32 Recap

Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung Episode 31-32 Recap. This episode was heartbreaking, as His Majesty hurries Prince Dowan’s wedding, he and Goo Hae Ryung are forced to abandon their newfound love.

Below are the highlights of episode 31-32. To see the recaps of episode 29-30 click here.

Prince Dowan Forced to Prepare for His Wedding and Goo Hae Ryung Takes a Step Back

This episode continued with Prince Dowan pleading with the Queen Dowager to cancel his wedding as he is deeply in love with someone else. The Queen was however straightforward in telling him that this wedding is bigger than him and that before he is a man he is a Prince first.
He was furious after hearing that he had no choice in the matter of choosing someone to spend the rest of his life with. He was also left even more furious when he realized that Hae Ryung somehow seemed unbothered by the harshness of the matter.
Instead of crying and telling him that she doesn’t want him to get married, she congratulates him.
This shows the difference between Goo Hae Ryung’s and Prince Dowan’s character. While he is emotional, Hae Ryung is pragmatic in her beliefs and actions.
Of course, she loves him but she has acknowledged that Prince Dowan isn’t the average person, he is a member of the royal family, which means his life isn’t planned by him but the people surrounding him.

Things were made even harder for her when she was sent to record the daily activities of Queen Dowager, which meant she had to record the steps that were taken to prepare for Prince Dowan’s wedding; such as finding a bride.

Song Sa Hee Added to the List of Wives For Prince Dowan

Song Sa Hee who has been serving as Officer Min’s spy has gotten her self in a situation that she hates. In this episode, Officer Min added her name to the list of wives to be married to Prince Dowan and she was left in distress.

One of her main reason for becoming a historian was that she could elevate herself and give herself options. However, the path she chose to do so came back to haunt her.
Based on what the writers have revealed about Officer Min, he aims to keep people around him that he can use to sway decision making in the palace. And in this episode, he had planned to use Song Sa Hee as a pawn.

Song Sa Hee was not only saddened that the life she had planned would be snatched away but also because in her heart she was in love with the Crown Prince. Though she understood her place, she has always cared specially for the Crown Prince.

The Crown Prince was left somewhat disappointed when he heard that her name was added to the list as he knew it was Officer Min’s doing. He also thought she was trying to get ahead and that it was part of their plan.
However, after she broke down and voiced her frustration he was able to understand and relate to her pain. The morning following their session, Song Sa Hee was seen leaving the Crown Prince’s quarters at dawn and this brought about disarray in the palace.

I however believe that it was apart of their plan so that her name could be removed from the list. I don’t believe she actually slept with him.

The Secret Surrounding Goo Hae Ryung+ Goo Hae Ryung Breaks Up With Prince Dowan

We have learned more in this episode regarding the death of Goo Hae Ryung’s father. Based on the conversation Mo-Hwa and Jae Kyung had, he may have been responsible for the death of Hae Ryung’s biological father. It appears Hae Ryung has been misled her whole life about the death of her father. I hope the writers will bring more clarity in the next episode.

Furthermore, the ending of this episode was heartbreaking to watch as we saw Prince Dowan suffering. Realizing how hard it was to live without Hae Ryung he rushed to her home hoping she may have a change of heart and fight for their relationship. He went as far as to promised her that he would give up his title and live outside the palace, just so they could be together.

Hae Ryung who is a strong-willed and practical person told him that they may have regrets later on. Although it was heartbreaking for her, she told him that her feelings weren’t mutual(she obviously didn’t mean it).

Many may believe that Hae Ryung is cold and mean towards Prince Dowan but being way older than him, she’s able to have more understanding and be more realistic. Prince Dowan was sheltered all of his life and knows nothing about hardship, hence if they should actually runaway they may have regrets later on.

With a few more episodes to go, it’s hard to predict if there will be a happy ending. Goo Hae Ryung isn’t the type of woman that wants to be tied down by getting married, especially to a Prince. And despite his opposition, Prince Dowan still has a responsibility to carry out his duty as a Prince.

Let’s wait and see how the next episode will unfold.
